How to Get Candle Wax Out of Carpet
Hiring a maid service can lead to a happier, healthier, and more productive life. Maid services free up your time so you can place focus on other areas in your life. Having someone there to help you clean up messes without the stress is ideal and beneficial in many situations.
One of those situations is cleaning candle wax from your carpet. Shortly after candle wax spills, it hardens. When it spills on your carpet, it’ll harden and stick to the fibers.
This makes it difficult to remove wax on carpet. However, we’re here to offer some great tips on how to clean up wax on carpeting. Continue reading below to get started!
Prepare Your Tools
To get started, you want to gather all of the tools that you’ll use to remove the wax from the carpet. Here’s our list of supplies.
- a bag of ice
- a butter knife
- a hairdryer or iron
- a brown paper bag or a rag
- carpet cleaner
- a vacuum
You’ll use these tools in the order they’re written to rid your carpet of the wax.
Freeze the Candle Wax
Once the wax spills, you can place your bag of ice over the wax to freeze it. To prevent the wax from becoming moist, make sure you wrap the bag of ice in a towel. Then, set the ice on the wax for several minutes.
You want to harden the wax as much as possible to make it easier to lift up and out of the carpet.
Remove What You Can
Once the wax freezes, it’s then time to remove what you can of it. To do this, take your butter knife and gently scrape off as much wax as possible. In some cases, you may be able to scrape off all of the wax.
However, if you’re unable to remove all of the wax with the butter knife, then the next step is to apply heat.
Iron the Wax Out
Take your brown paper bag or your cloth rag and place it over the wax. Then, Place your iron or hairdryer on a low setting. Don’t use a high heat setting as this can cause the carpet fibers to melt or burn.
Avoid using the steam setting as well. Then, gently rub the iron over the bad or cloth rag. If using a hairdryer, then simply use the dryer to warm up the area.
The paper bag or cloth will absorb the wax. Place a new cloth or bag down and repeat until all of the wax is absorbed.
