toilet cleaning tips

Did you know that nearly one-third of toilet seats have mold and yeast?

Home bathrooms may also be contaminated with the herpes virus and other germs that can make you ill. These pathogens are particularly harmful to those with a compromised immune system.

One way to prevent germs from spreading is to clean your toilet regularly. Ideally, you should do it at least once or twice a week if you live alone. Don’t fret, though — these five toilet cleaning tips will make everything easier.

Let’s dive in!

1. Disinfect with Hydrogen Peroxide

Disinfecting is a lot more effective than regular toilet cleaning. This process not only removes dirt but also kills harmful bacteria and viruses. Simply pour half a cup of hydrogen peroxide into the toilet bowl and flush after 30 minutes.

Due to its antimicrobial properties, hydrogen peroxide is ideal for sterilization and disinfection. Clinical research shows that it’s effective against all forms of microorganisms. Plus, it has a better safety profile than traditional toilet cleaners.

2. Use Vinegar to Remove Stubborn Stains

White vinegar does more than just add flavor to your meals. It’s also a good disinfectant and can inhibit bacteria growth. On top of that, it has the power to remove stubborn stains.

All you need to do is to pour about four ounces of vinegar into the toilet. Close the lid and refrain from using the toilet over the next few hours.

If there are any stains left, scrub the toilet bowl with a scouring pad soaked in vinegar.

3. Clean Your Toilet with Coke

The phosphoric acid in soda can remove rust rings and other tricky stains. Simply pour a can of coke around the rim and leave it for an hour or longer.

Flush the toilet and then scrub the bowl with a brush. Flush again.

Sure, coke isn’t as effective as a professional toilet cleaning solution, but it’s safe and convenient. If you have guests coming over, you can use this trick to quickly remove grime and stains from the toilet.

4. Go Green

Who says you need to use harsh chemicals to clean your home? From vinegar and baking soda to lemon juice, there are plenty of “green” alternatives available.

Here’s how to make your own toilet cleaner: mix half a cup of castile soap, half a cup of baking soda, and one cup of water in a bowl. Add a few drops of essential oil.

Pour the mixture into a bottle and shake well. Apply it to the toilet bowl, leave it for five to 15 minutes, and then scrub with a brush. Flush the toilet.

5. Remove Rust Rings Naturally

A simple way to remove that ugly rust ring inside the bowl is to use a pumice stone. Soak it in warm water, put on some rubber gloves, and then scrub the stains. Flush when you’re done.

Use light, even strokes to avoid damaging the toilet bowl. Likewise, you may use pumice stones to clean the sink or bathtub. Don’t do it too often, though — four to six times a year is more than enough.
